tightfashion: Cauldron Ice Cream, the OG Puffle in Santa Ana

After dinner at Shuck Oyster Bar at The OC Mix with my girlfriends, we were brainstorming different places to eat dessert. I immediately thought of Cauldron Ice Cream, which was a few minutes down the street just on the outskirts of the South Coast Plaza area. I had seen a plethora of ice cream pics from this place on Instagram and was excited to try it out.

We walked in around 7:45pm on a Thursday and stood in line for approximately 5 minutes (I've heard that the wait can be as long as 2 hours!). The place was packed, but thankfully we were able to snag a table for four. I wanted a photo worth-looking ice cream so I asked the cashier which ice cream was the prettiest and he suggested the H2O Rose (Delicate floral flavor. Essence of rose garnished with a coat of rose sugar). I for one like floral-flavored ice cream, others may not be so keen on it, and the actual ice cream in a 'puffle' far surpassed my expectations.

Due to the rapid freezing process of the ingredients to create freshly made ice cream, the consistency of the ice cream is thick and tastes sweeter than your usual scooped ice cream. My puffle (which is like a puffy waffle cone) was perfectly crafted, not too mushy or dense; it had just enough crisp, was easy to bite off and a great taste and texture complement to the ice cream.

My friends got the S'Mores and Cirque de la Cream; they said the S'mores ice cream was difficult to place the spoon into but the flavor was great, the favorite among the group was the Cirque de la Cream which has circus animal cookies mixed inside the ice cream and topped with sprinkles and a circus animal cookie. I would definitely recommend coming in to try it out; the atmosphere is fun, the ice cream is delicious and affordable for what you are receiving ($6 for Ice Cream with Puffle, 1 Scoop $4.50, 2 Scoops $5.50, 4 Scoops $8).
